A man's in hospital with life-threatening injuries after an incident in Rochdale, which police believe may have been an assault.

Around 5:50pm on Thursday 11 July, officers were called to reports a man had received serious injuries in the Gale Street area of Heywood town centre.

He was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing, Greater Manchester Police said.

Officers are now appealing for information and are not ruling out a 'potential assault or attack'.

Anyone with CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage from the areas around the Bury New Road junctions of High Street, Regent Street, and Rose Hill between 4.45pm and 5.35pm is asked to contact police.

Detective Sergeant Timothy O’Callaghan, from GMP’s Rochdale district, said: “We are working to piece together the exact timeline of what led to this man suffering serious injuries. Our initial enquiries cannot rule out a potential assault or attack, which is why we are asking for people to contact us.

“We would appreciate anyone who has any relevant footage or information getting in touch – it could greatly benefit our ongoing work.

“You can contact police via 101 or gmp.police.uk, quoting log 2908 of 11/07/24. You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
