Man extradited & charged with attempted murder in Greater Manchester
Petre Dumitru was charged on Friday
A man has been extradited back to the UK from the Netherlands and charged with attempted murder in Greater Manchester.
Petre Dumitru, a Romanian national of no fixed abode, was charged on Friday 17 December by detectives after being flown back to Manchester from Amsterdam.
He appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court yesterday (Saturday) and has been remanded into custody until his next court date.
The charge relates to an alleged incident in the early hours of Sunday 2 June 2019 where a then-36-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries after a disturbance on Westbury Road.
Detective Sergeant Jamie Heaton, of GMP's North Manchester division, said:
"Our investigation into what led to a man sustaining such serious injuries that day in June 2019 has seen us conduct a wide range of enquiries to ensure that anyone we suspect is responsible is prosecuted.
"In order to bring Dumitru back to the United Kingdom to stand accused at a Manchester court, we have worked tirelessly with the vital support of the Crown Prosecution Service, the National Crime Agency, as well as Dutch and Romanian law enforcement agencies.
"We've demonstrated our commitment to go to whatever lengths is necessary to bring suspects before the courts, no matter where they may be, and our work will not relent until justice is brought."
