Man charged with murder after missing woman found dead

A man has been charged with murder after a woman’s body was found at a property in Bolton.

The discovery was made on Monday, (December 23rd).

The woman has been formally identified as 38-year-old Mariann Borocz, who had been reported missing since Saturday, December 14.

Police say extensive searches and community appeals were carried out in a bid to locate her.

Christopher Barlow, 61, of Pedder Street, has been charged with Mariann’s murder.

He has been remanded into custody and is set to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court today, (Thursday, December 26).

Specially trained family liaison officers are supporting Mariann’s family.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Platten, Senior Investigating Officer from the Major Incident Team, expressed condolences on behalf of the investigation team. “Our thoughts remain with Mariann’s family as they come to terms with this heartbreaking loss,” he said.

The investigation is ongoing, with police working to piece together a full timeline of events leading up to Mariann’s death.

DCI Platten also issued an appeal for additional information: “If you have any information that could assist our inquiries, please come forward. You can speak to our officers directly or contact us on 101, quoting incident 1670 of 23/12/2024. I’d like to extend my gratitude to those who have already provided information and supported our appeals.”
