Man charged with attempted murder after south Manchester stabbing

A 19-year-old man remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition

A 20-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following the stabbing of a teenager in south Manchester at the weekend.

Akbar Kafeel Khan, from Gorton, has also been charged with possession of a bladed article. He has been remanded in custody and was due to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court today.

A woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been bailed as police continue to the investigate.

The 19-year-old victim, who remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition, was attacked on Stockport Road in Levenshulme at around 11.30pm on Sunday 22 January.

A temporary stop and search order was put in place in the area following the incident, which came to an end yesterday.

Greater Manchester Police are continuing to urge anyone with any information regarding the incident to come forward.
