A man has been arrested following a suspected shooting in Salford.

Just before 9pm on Sunday 30 June, police were called by members of the public to reports of a suspected shooting on Jane Street, in the Weaste area of the city.

When officers arrived, they established that a number of shots had been fired at a property.

Immediate safeguarding measures were put in place for those affected, Greater Manchester Police said.

On Tuesday 2 July, a man - aged 25 - was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, after being stop searched by neighbourhood officers.

Detective Inspector Justin Bryant of GMP’s Salford crime investigation department, said: “Whilst our investigation is in the early stages, I hope this arrest shows the community that we are taking swift action to protect them, and tackle firearms enabled criminality.

“I would like to thank those who have already come forward and shared information with us, and I would urge anyone who has not yet spoken to us directly, please get in touch. Please don’t assume what you know is already known to us. The smallest piece of information, CCTV, doorbell or dash cam footage could be crucial to our investigation.

“We are continuing our appeal to anyone who may have seen a white SUV type vehicle in the area over the last few days, which perhaps seemed out of place. At this stage, we believe this vehicle to be crucial to our investigation.

“Additional officers remain in the area, they are there to support you, and I would urge you to speak to them if you haven’t already.

"Any information will be treated with the utmost discretion, please contact GMP on 101 quoting log 3070 of 30/6/2024.

"If you would prefer to remain anonymous, please share information with the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111."
