Major M60 delays as motorway shuts in both directions

Emergency services are dealing with an incident on a stretch of the motorway

There are major delays on the M60 this morning (Tuesday 16 September) as emergency services deal with a "concern for welfare" incident on stretch of the motorway.

The road is closed in both directions between from J7 A6144 (Carrington) to J5 A5103 Princess Parkway J5 (Princess Parkway).

Traffic monitoring service Inrix said queues are building to junction to J12 (Eccles Interchange) for anti-clockwise traffic and back to J25 (Brinnington) clockwise.

There are also queues on the M56 eastbound back to J6 (Bowden).

National Highways said: "The #M60 is now CLOSED in both directions between J6 (#Sale) and J8 (#Carrington) due to a police-led incident.

"There are delays of at least an hour in both directions, so please plan ahead."

Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers are currently responding to a concern for welfare incident between J6 and J8 on the M60.

"Emergency services are in attendance and closures are currently in place."
