Drivers are facing delays this morning after a serious crash has closed the M62 near Warrington.

It's now shut westbound between J9 for the M6 and J7 for Rainhill.

National Highways say it's due to a crash between two lorries and a car.

In an earlier statement they said:

Drivers in the North West are advised that the M62 is closed following a serious collision in Cheshire.

National Highways was alerted to the collision involving one car and two HGVs on the westbound carriageway between Junctions 9 (Warrington) and 8 (Burtonwood) at 5.30am on Thursday 11 July 2024.

Emergency services are in attendance and the carriageway is likely to remain closed through the peak morning period.

Heavy congestion is likely and drivers are advised to find an alternative route.

One lane of the M62 is also closed on both carriageways between Junctions 7 and 8 following an earlier collision during which the barrier sustained damage.
