Louis van Gaal delivers incredible speech at Manchester United's Player of the Year awards
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal stole the show at the Player of the Year Awards last night with a hilarious speech!
Hailed by some fans as the “greatest speech of all time”, van Gaal’s epic address was packed full of jokes and acerbic swipes.
Repeatedly making reference to United’s shaky start to the season, van Gaal recounted stories about his players and even joked his team "could have been the champions" and were "very close" to Chelsea despite the 15 point gap.
After receiving a rapturous response, when host Jim Rosenthal was wrapping up proceedings, a jubilant van Gaal returned to the stage saying: "Hello, hello, pay attention to the manager!"
He also scorned those in attendance for not applauding the female saxophonist on stage.
Praising the speech, Manchester United legend Gary Neville tweeted: "LVG is cracking me up here. Great entertainment! One of the best/funniest 20 mins I've ever had!"
Goalkeeper David De Gea was again voted the Player of the Year by his team mates.
He said: "I want to say thank you to my team-mates, they have been fantastic this season and I love them. We have a great dressing room and I would like to say thank you very much.”
Juan Mata’s phenomenal second strike in the 2-1 win over Liverpool in March was voted goal of the season.
