Bomb disposal teams make it safe

A live hand grenade's been found in woodland in Rochdale.

A member of the public found the device in a wooded area off Cecil Street in the Milkstone & Deeplish area on Monday.

Police were called to the scene and set up a cordon whilst bomb disposal officers were deployed to assess the situation.

The device was later identified as a flash bang grenade and was recovered to be made safe.

Posting on their facebook page GMP Rochdale said:

Today officers from the town centre Milkstone & Deeplish neighbourhood team, acting on information from a member of the public, located a discarded live hand grenade in a wooded area off Cecil Street in the Milkstone & Deeplish area.

The area was cordoned off with scene tape and bomb disposal officers were deployed to assess the situation. The device was later identified as a flash bang grenade and was recovered to be made safe.
