Emergency services are responding to, what police believe was, a terror attack in the Westminster area of London.

A silver Ford Fiesta collided with a number of cyclists and pedestrians before crashing in to barriers outside the Houses of Parliament at 07:37 this morning (Tuesday 14th August 2018).

Our reporter Georgie Prodromo is at the scene:

The driver of the car, a man in his late 20s, was arrested on suspicion of terror offences and is currently in custody.

Here's what we know about him so far: :: He was wearing a black puffer jacket and was led away from the scene in handcuffs. He is being held at a south London police station.

:: Police say the suspect is "not currently co-operating", and they had not formally identified him but he's believed to be from the Midlands.

A number of people were injured as a result of the collision and they are in hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Here's what we know about them so far:

:: Two people were taken to hospital, one of whom, a man, has since been discharged. A woman is being treated for serious but non life-threatening injuries at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington. Another man, who was treated at the scene, did not need to go to hospital.

Here's the latest from the Met police:

The force has added:

Members of the public should expect to see extra police officers in and around London but remain vigilant and, if they see anything they think is suspicious, dial 999 immediately.

Officers are also asking witnesses and anyone with pictures or videos of the incident to dial 0800 789 321 or go on www.ukpoliceimageappeal.co.uk.
