Latest: Fire in Northern Quarter apartments

A 12 storey building in Manchester City Centre's Northern Quarter has gone up in flames.

12 fire engines were sent to the apartments on Joiner Street late this afternoon (Saturday 30th December 2017).

A number of roads have been closed and people are being asked to avoid the area.

People who live nearby are being asked to keep their windows and doors closed.
