Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was attacked with her own headphones while jogging in Didsbury.

At around 3pm on Saturday a 25 year-old woman was jogging in Fog Lane Park in Didsbury, when she heard rustling in the bushes.

On entering the bushes to investigate she was knocked to the floor by a man and an unknown object was held to her throat.

There was a scuffle and the woman’s head was repeatedly banged against a tree and the man attempted to strangle the woman with the wire from her headphones.

The man was disturbed and he ran away leaving the woman with minor injuries.

The man is described as white, in his 30s, cropped brown hair and wearing a grey, possibly waterproof, coat.

Detective Inspector Gareth Davies from GMP’s South Manchester Division said: “This was a terrifying attack on a woman who had stopped to check that someone else wasn’t in danger.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen this man or may have any information about this attack to come forward.

“We are treating this incredibly seriously and we are determined to find this man to prevent this happening to someone else.

“We have extra patrols in the area and we would encourage anyone with any concerns or information to come and speak to police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
