Jamie Carragher has apologised to a 14-year-old girl after appearing to spit at her after United beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The teenage United fan was sitting in the passenger seat while her father was driving and talking to the former Liverpool and England defender about the game.

In a video of the incident, her father repeatedly mentioned the score and Carragher is heard to say, "Alright'', before appearing to spit at the car alongside his.

It ends with the girl saying to her father that Carragher's spittle had hit her in the face.

Sky Sports have confirmed they will be addressing Carragher's "unacceptable" behaviour.

The TV pundit has said he will "apologise again properly'' when he meets with his bosses.

He was stopped by reporters at London Euston station earlier and asked if he had seen the girl in the car - he replied: "I didn't to be honest, she was leant back. I wish she wasn't involved. I hate that she was involved more than anything."
