Police are appealing for witnesses after shots were fired in Stockport.

Police were called shortly after 8:30 in the morning on Saturday the 5th of December, Fovant Crescent in North Reddish to reports of a disturbance and possible gun shots heard.

Officers attended and discovered two cars with their windows smashed, and a man with minor injuries having been assaulted.

It was later established that four men wearing balaclavas forced entry into an address on the street where one of them fought with a man who was inside with his two-year-old child.

The victim managed to wrestle a hammer from one of the offenders before he was chased out of the address and hid behind a car.

One of the men then brandished a firearm and a number of shots were reportedly fired in the man's direction.

The offenders then left the area in a silver Ford Fiesta.

Detective Inspector Julia Bowden of GMP’s Stockport Division said:

"This is obviously a very serious and shocking incident that happened in broad daylight on a Saturday morning when there could quite easily have been children on the street.

"We are very keen to speak to any witnesses and anyone who knows who is behind this attack. Anybody with information should contact police."

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 5902 or stockportnorth@gmp.police.uk or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
