Investigation after Bolton shooting
Gun fired into the air in Breightmet
An investigation’s underway after a shooting in Bolton.
Police were called around 12.20pm on Sunday 1 August 2021 to Dorchester Avenue, Breightmet, to a report of a possible firearm discharge earlier that morning.
Officers attended and enquiries established a dark Vauxhall Astra had pulled up outside an address on Dorchester Avenue.
The driver of the Astra then proceeded to get out of the vehicle and throw a brick at a parked car before the passenger of the car discharged a firearm into the air.
Thankfully no injuries have been reported.
No arrests have been made and officers are following all available lines of enquiry to identify those responsible.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Rollinson of GMP's Bolton district, said: "We're thankful that no one sustained any injuries during the incident but this is understandably a shocking and frightening thing to have occurred during the middle of the day.
"I want to reassure the community that we are working at pace and following all available lines of enquiry to ensure we identify and locate the people in the Vauxhall Astra and ensure they face the appropriate justice. We would appeal to anyone who may have seen a dark Vauxhall Astra in the area at the time to get in touch with police as a matter of urgency.
"Our top priority is ensuring the community is kept safe and we have increased our visibility in the area but I would encourage anyone with worries or concerns to speak with officers."
