Freezing conditions are causing problems on Greater Manchester's roads and public transport - as an amber cold-health alert remains in force in the region.

There's been disruption on the Rochdale and Bury Metrolink line.

TfGM’s Head of Metrolink, Danny Vaughan, said: “This morning’s service is not good enough for passengers and I’m sorry for anyone whose journey is impacted.

“Significantly low temperatures and freezing fog overnight has caused ice to form around the overhead lines, severely impacting the launch of services to Bury, Oldham and Rochdale.

“Passengers can use their tickets on local bus services and keep up to date with the latest information on our website and social channels.

“We’ll also be asking the operator to increase the number of ‘ice breaker’ trams running overnight tonight to try and keep line lines free from ice and avoid any repeat tomorrow.”

On the motorways - lanes are now clear after a multi vehicle collision on the M62 Westbound at Milnrow.

Anyone out and about in the icy weather is being urged to take caution by the North West Ambulance Service.
