People have been told to leave their homes after a huge fire broke out in Levenshulme on Friday morning (04 October).

Dramatic photos emerged showing plumes of smoke blowing across both Levenshulme and Gorton, with a large cordon in place around Longden Road

The fire appears to be coming from an automotive centre, and both fire crews and police are on the scene.

Carly told Hits Radio she had to rush home from work to rescue her daughter who is home ill.

"My colleague showed me photos of the fire and I thought, 'that's the end of my road'. Luckily, my house is okay", Carly said.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue said: "Firefighters are in attendance at a fire involving a commercial unit on Longden Road, Gorton, which is producing a large amount of smoke.

"Nearby residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed and to avoid the area.

"Road closures are in place."
