At around 10pm on Thursday 24 June, police were called to a report of a suspicious item on Booth Street East in Manchester City Centre.
A cordon was put in place as a safety precaution, and GMFRS and NWAS were also at the scene.
A number of residential buildings were evacuated and several streets were closed.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, after assessing the item, later declared it safe.
Inspector Stephen Griffin said: "We always take reports like this seriously and public safety in situations like this is our priority.
"Thankfully, on examination, the item was assessed and was not a viable device. We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding."
The scene was removed at about 2am.
