Hazardous substance on Stockport street removed

People on a street in Stockport have finally been able to return home, after hazardous materials were disposed of.

Specialists carried out a series of safe, controlled explosions yesterday evening (2 June 2023) in an isolated location.

The property on Middleton Road has now been made safe and the cordon has been lifted allowing residents to return safely.

The discovery was made by police officers on Thursday during a search of the house on in response to intelligence about the manufacture of illegal fireworks.

A 50-year-old being held under Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act remains in custody
