Free parking in the city centre for Valentines weekend

Published 12th Feb 2016

Couples enjoying a romantic meal in Manchester city centre on Valentine’s day will be able to park for free.

The parking will be free in all on-street metered bays in zones three and four of the city centre – including streets near Piccadilly Station, in Castlefield and near Whitworth Street – from midday onwards on Saturday February 13 and Sunday February 14.

Visitors will be able to take advantage of the offer to enjoy a romantic meal in the evening – or even to do some last minute shopping for Valentine’s Day presents on Saturday afternoon.

The offer follows a positive response by shoppers to a scheme in which people were offered free parking across the city centre throughout January, which was taken up by more than 20,000 motorists.

Free parking was also offered last weekend (February 6 and 7) to enable visitors to park for free to enjoy the city’s Chinese New Year celebrations.

It is part of a package of measures being introduced by Manchester City Council and its partners thanking motorists for bearing with them while major infrastructure works are carried out which will improve transport across the city.

The free parking will be available in zones three and four - which can be found by visiting

www.manchester.gov.uk/citycentreparking - and stickers will be attached on machines next to bays where parking will be free during these weekends.
