An investigation is underway following a fatal collision on Mancunian Way in the early hours of 31st October 2025.

Police were alerted at 12.50am to a collision involving a Volkswagen Passat and a man in his 20s on the busy Manchester route. Tragically, the man died at the scene.

Earlier that morning, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) received a call shortly after midnight with concerns for a man walking on the carriageway. Investigators believe that the man in the report is the same individual involved in the collision.

Officers were dispatched as a high priority and carried out an extensive search of the area, but the man could not be found before the incident.

As a result of the earlier report, GMP has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) to review its response to the situation.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a man in his 40s, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Specialist officers are offering support to the victim’s family, who have been informed about the tragedy.

GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit continues its efforts to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Sergeant Andrew Page from the unit called for assistance from the public, saying, "This is a tragic incident for all involved and we express our deepest condolences to the family of the man who has lost his life, and whom we are doing our utmost to support at this time.

“We’re committed to carrying out a full investigation into this incident, and we want to thank the public for their patience this morning due to the significant delays and disruption on Mancunian Way.

“If anyone has any footage or information that could help us in our investigation, please get in touch with us.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 0161 856 4741 and quote log number 111 of the 31/10/25.
