The family of a man, whose body was found lying in a street in Wigan covered in 'potentially hazardous' substances, has paid tribute to him.

The discovery was made on Kilburn Drive in Shevington on Thursday night.

Police have now named the victim as 38-year-old Liam Smith.

Paying tribute to him, Liam’s family said:

“Liam was kind hearted, funny, the life and soul of the party. He was the most devoted dad, much loved son, brother, grandson and uncle.

"He will sorely be missed by all who knew and loved him.”

Liam’s family have now asked for continued privacy whilst they grieve for their loss.

Mystery still surrounds the circumstances leading up to Liam's death.

Speaking at the scene on Kilburn Drive on Friday night, detectives said they didn't know what the hazardous substance on Liam's body was but insisted there was no wider risk to the public.
