The family of a Special Constable who died after a collision on the motorway has paid tribute to her at the closure of the inquest into her death. At around 3:30am on Monday 4 July 2016, police were called to junction 5 of the M61 motorway to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a HGV. Officers attended and found a woman - formally identified as 23-year-old Samantha Derbyshire - who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Today’s inquest concluded that Samantha’s death was as result of a road traffic collision. Paying tribute to her, Samantha's family said: “The inquest today brings closure to the tragic accident which resulted in the loss of our beautiful daughter Sam Derbyshire. “Firstly we would like to thank everyone who helped Sam that morning including the emergency services. Thank you all. “Sam's short life was packed with love, humour, friendship and aspiration. Sam touched the lives of many people, especially her family and friends and we miss her every day. “Sam loved life and it was her ambition to be accepted into the police force, an ambition she achieved and which we are immensely proud of. “Sam’s legacy, to enrich the lives of others lives on, fuelled by charitable donations to Guide Dogs for the Blind. “We hope to raise enough money to train guide dog in her name.”
