Extra police are patrolling an area of Salford where a spate of anti-social behaviour has broken out following the death of two teenagers.

Kailem Robinson and Kaine Darby were killed when the motorbike they were riding crashed into a car in Little Broughton last Thursday (22 May).

Since then, there have been reports of graffiti being sprayed on flats, roads blocked off with wheelie bins and fireworks thrown at cars.

Greater Manchester Police have now issued a statement, confirming extra officers are being deployed to minimise disruption.

It follows pleas from the families of the two boys for the disruption to stop.

Chief Inspector Simon Ashcroft, of GMP Salford’s local policing team, said: “What happened last Thursday night was a tragic event that saw two young boys lose their life. I totally understand why feelings are high in the community and their need to grieve this loss.

“Family liaison officers are supporting Kailem and Kaine’s families at this difficult time. I ask that the community respect their wishes for no trouble in the area as this is not an appropriate way for the boys to be remembered.

“Everyone who calls Lower Broughton their home shouldn’t live in fear of leaving their home or shouldn’t be prevented from going about their daily business.

"I know there will have been frustration over the bank holiday as we sensitively engaged with those gathering in the area.

“Some of the activity in the area has gone too far and our officers will continue engaging positively with those paying their respects, but any criminality won’t be tolerated.

"Enquiries are ongoing to take action against anyone identified as responsible.”
