Police are investigating reports eight men armed with machetes had a fight on a road in Wigan in broad daylight.

Emergency services were sent to Carbank Avenue in Atherton at about 11:00 yesterday morning (Monday 26th September 2016) following a report that three cars had crashed and there had been a fight.

When officers arrived, they found the vehicles abandoned and just one man with minor injuries.

An investigation's underway but no one has been arrested.

Detective Sergeant Craig Hurst of GMP’s Wigan borough said:

“This is an unbelievable incident on the streets of Atherton.

“I know the community will be alarmed but we are putting all our efforts into finding those responsible.

“There will be extra police in the area and anyone with any concerns can speak to our officers.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to get in touch as soon as possible.”
