The family of a 90 year-old war veteran from Gorton has thanked dozens of people for turning up at his funeral despite not knowing him.

Richard Boden died of cancer earlier this month and as he only had a small family they decided to launch an appeal for people to attend his funeral.

The former sailor who served during World War 2 as part of the Arctic convoys delivering supplies to the Soviet Union was buried at Southern Cemetery.

Richard’s body was driven to the church behind military standard bearers and according to those in attendance say it was standing room only for the service.
