A final farewell as Debenhams closes its doors for good
The retailer is 242-years-old
Staff and shoppers are saying their final goodbyes to the remaining Debenhams stores which will close their doors for good on Saturday (15th May 2021).
It's after the retailer went into liquidation in December.
New owner Boohoo will now run the business online-only.
Last month administrators reopened 97 stores to try and get rid of millions of pounds worth stock.
Staff have been saying their final goodbyes, sharing images of empty stores and mannequins.
It all began in 1778 as a draper business in London before Debenham's Ltd launched as a chain of department stores in 1905. It was then to become the largest department store group in the UK.
The Rylands Building on Manchester's Market Street has been home to Debenhams since 1973. Planning permission has now been submitted to transform the listed building it into shops, leisure facilities and office space.
