Deansgate to be transformed into seaside resort as part of Manchester Day celebrations
The event takes place on 29 July in place of a traditional parade
Deansgate is to be transformed into a dazzling seaside haven as part of Manchester Day celebrations later this month.
The city's famous and well-loved occasion is back on 29 July, this year called Manchester Day on Holiday.
The event promises to bring the charming holiday vibes to the heart of Manchester and, will be offering up first-class events for Mancunians of all ages to enjoy.
Celebrations will take place from 9am – 6pm and will be open for people of all ages.
Complete with a traditional helter skelter, cabin crew performances and sand sculptures, fun seekers are to be transported to a vibrant seaside without having to leave the M60.
Deansgate’s celebrations will also feature live performances on the main stage from a number of local artists.
The Council is working with Creative Partner, Walk the Plank, to make it happen instead of hosting a traditional parade.
Councillor Pat Karney, Chair of Manchester Day, said: “Mark the day in your calendars and get ready for Manchester to be the number one holiday destination on the 29th July. People always say that the only thing Manchester doesn't have is a beach, well, not for long!
“The seaside in the city centre is one of the many new and unexpected events that we will be organising this year. We can’t wait to reveal what else we’ve got planned, keep your eyes peeled!”
