Cyclist left fighting for life after violent Christmas Eve attack in Moss Side
Police are urging anyone who saw what happened to get in touch
A man is in a serious condition in hospital following a violent assault in Moss Side on Christmas Eve.
Police were called at around 6:30 PM on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, by the ambulance service, responding to reports of a man found with severe facial injuries on Viscount Street.
Police say initial investigations indicate that the victim, a 49-year-old man, was cycling down Viscount Street when he was dragged off his bike by another man.
The attacker allegedly assaulted the victim while he was on the ground, leaving him with life-changing and life-threatening injuries.
The victim has undergone surgery and remains in a critical condition.
Detective Inspector Lee Newburn of Greater Manchester Police’s City of Manchester Criminal Investigation Department described the incident as “shocking” and issued an appeal for witnesses.
“This is a shocking attack that has left a victim with devastating injuries on Christmas Eve,” DI Newburn said. “We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anything to help us build a full timeline of events leading up to this assault.”
Residents in the area, particularly those living near Viscount Street, are urged to come forward if they noticed anything suspicious on Tuesday evening. Police are also seeking CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage that could assist in the investigation.
