Cyclist dies following crash in Gorton

A man's been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

At around 1.46am on Wednesday 2 June police were called to a report of a road traffic collision involving a black Saab and a bicycle on Hyde Road in Gorton.

Emergency services attended and the cyclist, a 56-year-old man, was taken to hospital in a critical condition but has since died.

The driver of the car, a 66-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody.

Police Sergeant Matt Waggett, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This is a tragic incident in which a man has very sadly lost his life and our thoughts are with his family during this extremely difficult time.

"We are working hard to piece together how the collision happened and we would urge anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone who may have dashcam footage to get in touch as soon as possible."
