Firefighters have spent the night tackling a huge blaze at a waster facility in Oldham.

In a statement the fre service said: "At 19.52 this evening (24th June 2021) we received the first of several 999 calls in relation to a fire at a waste handling facility on Mossdown Road, Oldham. This is a large fire that has spread to a neighbouring commercial unit. There are no reported injuries.

10 fire engines from across Greater Manchester, plus the aerial appliance, command unit, and a special hose-laying appliance are on the scene right now. Over 50 firefighters are working together to bring this large fire under control.

The area of the fire spans 100m x 100m and the material burning is dirty, so we are asking everyone in the local area to stay away from the incident and keep doors and windows closed.

Additionally, we are having to run high-volume hoses down some roads so expect traffic disruption and road closures as we fight this fire through the evening."
