The couple injured during the Manchester Victoria station attack are calling on communities to come together.

They've asked not to have their names or identities revealed as they continue to recover from their serious injuries.

In a statement, released through Greater Manchester Police, they start by thanking those who helped on the night.

“We would like to thank the men and women from British Transport Police who ran into danger to protect us, as well as the paramedics and hospital employees who have shown great care and skill in looking after us.

“We also want to say thank you to GMP for their ongoing support, our families for their care and concern, our friends and the wider public.

“We hope this incident does not divide communities or create tensions.

“Now we would like to be left in peace to make a full recovery."

A British Transport Police officer was also injured on the night when police officers at Victoria Train Station responded to a man armed with a knife.

A 25-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident has been detained under the Mental Heath Act.

Counter terror officers are still working on their investigation.
