Clare's Law Abuse Applications Made
Applications to reveal a partner's violent past are the highest in Greater Manchester than anywhere else in the UK since the 'Clare's Law' scheme.
There have been more applications to reveal a partner's violent past in Greater Manchester than anywhere else in the UK. Greater Manchester Police received 291 applications during the study period which led to 177 disclosures. In Cheshire there were 119 applications with 32 disclosures. The scheme's called 'Clare's Law' after Clare Wood, who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in Salford. Clare's father, Michael Brown, 71, said his work with Key 103 to bring about changes to legislation to protect women from domestic abuse has helped him deal with the grief felt over his daughter's death. In the wake of his daughter's death, he lobbied for the Government to enact what would become Clare's Law, which allows the police to disclose information about a partner's previous history of domestic violence or violent acts. Mr Brown said more could still be done and called for the national police computer to be used more effectively to identify men with abusive pasts.
