United and City are joint top of the Premier League after a weekend of emphatic results saw them completely level on points and goal difference.

On Saturday the Blues – who sit top of the Premier League based on the fact their name is first alphabetically – demolished Watford 6-0 at Vicarage Road thanks to a Sergio Aguero hat-trick and goals from Nicolas Otamendi, Gabriel Jesus and a Raheem Sterling penalty.

The win moved City three points clear of United at the top of the table, as the Reds entertained Everton on the Sunday.

It was the first game back at Old Trafford for former Reds’ skipper Wayne Rooney who received a warm reception from the home fans. Rooney’s return was spoiled for him by Antonio Valencia who scored a superb volley early on to put the visitors on the back foot.

Everton rallied and Rooney could have had an equaliser before a late rally from United gave the scoreline a one sided look as Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Romelu Lukaku and an Anthony Martial penalty made it an emphatic win.
