John Stones got City's Champions League campaign off to a flier with a brace in the Blues 4-0 hammering of Dutch side Feyenoord.

The England defender got City struck with a second-minute header in Rotterdam before wrapping up an impressive win after strikes from Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.

Guardiola won the Champions League twice in charge of Barcelona and bettering last season's last-16 exit must now be the minimum aim for City.

Guardiola was bouyant after the win noting: "Three points are very important to start the group stage. Last season we were not able to win one game away.

"If you want to make a step forward you have to do this."

Tuesday night saw United start their Champions League campaign with a 3-nil win over FC Basel at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho's side won thanks to goals from Marouane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaka and Marcus Rashford.
