City through to FA Cup quarter final after 5-1 win over Huddersfield
Blues batter visitors at the Etihad in fifth round replay.
Pep Guardiola’s side were in fine form in the FA Cup last night after fighting back from a surprise lead from Championship promotion hopefuls Huddersfield Town to win 5 -1 at the Etihad.
Huddersfield who brought 7,000 plus supporters from over the Pennines after there goalless draw in the first clash had something to cheer about early on, as former City youngster Harry Bunn put his effort straight through the legs of Claudio Bravo.
Guardiola who came to the defence of Bravo this week looked red face in the opening twenty minutes however City’s outfield players showed that they had too much skill for the visitors, after a Leroy Sane equalised with a tap in for his second goal in two games.
From this point on the Blues went into full attack mode with Sergio Aguero dispatching a penalty in the thirty fifth minute. Soon at it again Aguero assisted Pablo Zabaleta sealing the victory within the first half.
The second half brought no joy for Huddersfield as Sergio Aguero and the rest of City’s attackers put constant pressure on the Championship sides stern defence. Aguero netted again in the seventy third minute before substitute Kelechi Iheanacho scored with the last kick of the game.
Pep Guardiola piled the praise on Sergio Aguero, “He scored two and created a lot of chances, when he plays at that level he’s unstoppable.”
But the City boss had to again defended his selection of Claudio Bravo, who’s early blunder tested City fans patience, as the errors now seem to be wearing thin.
“The performance from Claudio was amazing he helped us to make the build-up, no one else can do that. He reads where the man is free and he gives us the opportunity to play. What the fans are expressing, I’m not here to judge that.”
City will be hoping to add their name to the FA Cup for the first time since 2011 and with the red side of Manchester currently celebrating their most recent trophy win, a statement was made last night in Pep’s side in their search for silverware.
