Two buses crash in Manchester city centre... on same day TfGM holds emergency 'safety summit'
There are urgent calls to improve safety on Greater Manchester's bus network
Two buses have crashed into each other in Manchester city centre, on the same day Transport for Greater Manchester called an emergency meeting over a number of collisions.
Emergency services rushed to Stretford Road at around 08:30GMT on Friday morning (22 November), following the collision between the buses.
Thankfully, there were no reports of any serious injuries, although it is believed one passenger took themselves to hospital.
It came as Transport for Greater Manchester hosted a "safety summit" following concerns about a number of collisions involving buses.
Earlier this month, two double deckers smashed into each other on Rochdale Road, injuring 17 people.
The transport body and police are investigating the incident, while an operator, understood to be Stagecoach, has also been told to carry out an urgent investigation.
TfGM’s Chief Network Officer, Danny Vaughan, said: “The safety of everyone who uses or works on the Bee Network is our number one priority.
“We have asked the operator to carry out an urgent investigation.
"Once we understand exactly what happened we will work with them to see what steps are needed to ensure our networks continue to operate as safely as possible."
