Brianna Ghey: Hundreds attend vigil in Warrington
People in her home town gathered to pay their respects
A vigil was held in memory of Brianna Ghey in Warrington Town Centre on Saturday evening which hundreds attended.
Brianna, who was a transgender girl, was found with fatal stab wounds on a path in Culcheth Linear Park at around 3.13pm exactly a week ago.
This vigil is part of dozens which have taken place across the country such as Birmingham, Bristol and near the park where the Birchwood resident was found last Saturday afternoon.
As well as floral and candle tributes, speeches and poems were read aloud while music including 'In the Arms of An Angel' played.
Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols was among those paying tribute to Brianna's life.
"Brianna Ghey's murder has left our community reeling and I cannot begin to imagine the agony that her family, her friends and all her loved ones are feeling right now. No parent should ever have to bury a child," she said.
"For all the progress we have made as a town and as a society for LGBT people and in tackling violence in women and girls, Brianna's shocking murder is a reminder of the inescapable reality that none of us are safe until we are all safe.
"I am committed in my role as MP to tackle violence against women and girls and to ensure we uphold and protect the rights of trans people to live as their authentic selves in safety."
A boy and a girl, both aged 15, have been charged with the murder of Brianna and a trial date has been fixed for July.
More vigils are due to be held across the county in places such as Plymouth and Oxford on Sunday in memory of Brianna.
