Bosses at Manchester's Nightingale Hospital say it's right time to stand down
The Health Secretary says the temporary hospital has been important for our national recovery
The NHS says now is the right time for Manchester's Nightingale Hospital to be stood down.
Daily Covid hospital admissions for North West have dropped to around 90 a day - a huge fall from the January peak of more than 400 a day.
The site has offered extra support for recovering patients during each wave of the pandemic.
The Health Secretary has thanked those involved and insists the temporary hospitals have been important for our national recovery.
A spokesperson for NHS Nightingale Hospital North West says, "The NHS Nightingale Hospital North West has provided an invaluable contribution to support routine care in the region, providing step-down care for patients needing further support and rehabilitation before returning home during each wave of the pandemic.
“The NHS has been building resilience across permanent services throughout the pandemic and the time is now right to stand the Nightingale hospital down.”
