Police launch investigation following hit-and-run incident in Bolton

An 89-year-old woman was left with serious injuries

Greater Manchester Police are investigating an incident in Bolton after an 89-year-old woman was hit by a car that failed to stop.

Officers first received reports of an incident taking place at 10:10 a.m. on Moss Bank Way in Bolton on Saturday (June 15th).

Responders arrived at the scene to find a woman who had been lying on the road and sustained serious injuries.

She was taken to hospital following the incident, and currently remains in a stable condition, but continues to be treated for fractures to her wrist and knees.

Police launched an investigation following the incident, discovered that the woman as she was walking along Moss Bank Way at the junction of Hill View Road when she collided with a vehicle after it turned left out of Hill View Road.

In the collision, officers found that the woman had been knocked to the floor and the driver of the car - a silver coloured SUV - failed to stop after knocking her to the ground.

The driver then turned left and proceeded to drive away, heading westbound on Moss Bank Way towards Moss Bank Park.

Speaking on the incident, Chief Inspector Michael Parker from Greater Manchester Police's Roads Policing Unit said: "We are investigating a road traffic collision, where a large vehicle struck an elderly woman, while she was crossing the road near the shops in Astley Bridge.

"The scene has now been stood down while officers review CCTV footage and continue to speak with people who were in the area at the time of this incident, aiming to identify the driver of the vehicle who failed to stop."

Officers have continued to appeal for information and witnesses following the incident as investigators piece together the events leading up to the incident.
