Some of Manchester's busiest streets will be 'terror-proofed', using concrete barriers and blocks, under plans to protect people from vehicle attacks.

It comes after top counter terror officers with Greater Manchester Police advised Manchester City Council.

The Hostile Vehicle Mitigation Measures will be introduced at a number of key city centre locations.

At the moment, the destinations have not been confirmed.

The Council has confirmed the work will be funded with money collected from parking fines.

More than £250,000 will be funneled into the scheme.

Cllr Nigel Murphy, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council, said: “The City Council is working closely with Counter Terrorism officers as part of a national programme of investment to ensure our cities are as safe as possible, which will include measures at several locations across our city centre and will likely include bollards and street furniture."
