ASDA lorry drivers in Rochdale call off strike action after pay deal
HGV drivers working for Wincanton at the Rochdale distribution centre have secured the deal
Lorry drivers working at the Asda distribution centre in Rochdale have called off planned strike action.
Unite members working for Wincanton have secured an improved pay offer of 8.25%, plus better overtime rates.
The drivers are involved in the delivery of chilled goods for the supermarket across Northern England.
Unite general secretary, Sharon Graham, said: “This is a strong result for the hardworking HGV drivers based at ASDA’s Rochdale distribution centre.
"Our workers deserve fair pay – which ASDA and Wincanton can afford – and by them standing together we have achieved just that.”
Unite regional officer, Paul Lomax, added: “It’s encouraging to see an offer that reflects the importance of our members.
"There is power in a union, and we urge those wishing to improve their wages and working lives to join Unite.”
