An 'army' of men is expected to mark through Wythenshawe Park this morning (Sunday 10th June 2018) in the fight against prostate cancer.
Prostate Cancer UK's first ever March for Men in Greater Manchester is at 10 o'clock.
It comes after it was revealed the number of men dying from prostate cancer is now higher than the number of women dying from breast cancer.
Prostate Cancer UK’s Chief Executive, Angela Culhane, said:
“One man dies every 45 minutes from prostate cancer, and we now know this disease is the third biggest cancer killer. That’s unacceptable. We need to turn that around and the wonderful efforts of everyone who has walked for us previously have laid the foundations.
“Thanks to the money raised we can fund more ground-breaking research, and it will also help us provide dedicated support and information to men and their families and make prostate cancer a disease the next generation of men need not fear. These walks are the perfect way to take a step in the right direction."
Tony Collier, who's 60 and from Timperley, was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer in May last year:
“When I found out I had prostate cancer I was completely shocked, and to hear that it was incurable was truly devastating. I hope that the money raised at this event goes towards a more accurate screening programme to help stop men being diagnosed too late.”
