Appeal to help identify woman who's body was found in the River Mersey
The body of a woman was found near Chorlton Water Park in March
Officers investigating the discovery of the body of a woman in the River Mersey in March are still undertaking work to find out her identity.
The body of the woman was sadly discovered in the river close to Chorlton Water Park at around 11.10am on Thursday 21 March.
Despite extensive investigative work including specialist examinations, DNA testing, and reviews of missing persons records, the identity of the woman currently remains unknown.
Due to the length of time that the woman had been in the water before discovery, her approximate age, ethnicity, and cause of death have not yet been established.
However, the woman is described as 156cm / 5 ft 1 in height, with a slim build, and medium length dark brown hair.
Investigators are determined to exhaust every avenue available to them, with the ultimate goal of reuniting the woman with her next-of-kin, and fully ascertaining what led to the woman sadly being discovered in the water.
Further specialist examinations will be completed in the coming days and weeks.
An image of the top the woman was wearing when found has previously been released, and officers hope that someone who may recognise it comes forward.
In addition to the lime green Primark-branded crop-top, the woman was wearing jeans branded as NEW LOOK – JENNA - UK size 8 (EU 36, USA 4). She was also wearing green coloured non-slip style socks.
Detective Inspector Louise Edwards says someone out there will know who this woman is:
“We are using every resource available to us as the investigation continues, including assistance from specialist advisers and forensic experts. We are determined to reunite this woman with her family and friends and establish the cause of her death.
“I would urge anyone with information to please come forward.”
