80-year-old in hospital after Longsight arson attack

Emergency crews were called in the early hours of this morning

An investigation is underway after a suspected arson attack injures an elderly man in Longsight, south Manchester.

Emergency services were called to Stamford Road shortly before 2am on Wednesday.

A man in his 80s was taken to hospital for treatment and remains in a stable condition.

Greater Manchester Police and fire crews attended the scene, and no arrests have been made so far.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses and any relevant CCTV or doorbell footage from the area.

Increased patrols have been deployed to reassure the local community. Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting log number 199 of 07/05/2025, or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
