Police are offering a £20,000 reward following the death of a Hulme man.

The reward is now being offered to anyone with any information leading to the arrest and conviction of anybody connected to the death of Desmond O’Reilly. Desmond was found collapsed with a serious head injury by a passer-by on St George’s Avenue, Hulme, at 10.13pm on Monday 5 December 2016. They immediately called for an ambulance and provided first aid at the scene. The 53-year-old was taken to hospital but sadly died shortly after 2pm on Tuesday 6 December 2016. Detectives believe that Desmond was attacked prior to being found and a Home Office post mortem concluded that he died as a result of the head injury he sustained. GMP's Major Incident Team launched an investigation and are continuing to appeal for information. Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Jones of GMP's Major Incident Team said: "We are approaching the two week anniversary of Desmond’s death and so far we have received very little information about what may have happened to him.

“It is vital that we establish the full circumstances of what happened to Desmond and how he came by the injury that led to his death. We are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have seen Desmond on the evening of Monday 5 December.

"I hope that this reward demonstrates our dedication to finding the truth about Desmond’s death and I would encourage anyone with any information to come forward. "If you live in the area and saw anything suspicious, or have any information about what happened to Desmond, please contact police immediately with anything you know." Anyone with any information about this incident should call police on 0161 856 2491, 101 quoting incident number 2365 of 5/12/16, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
