17 year old boy dies after police chase in Manchester

Shortly after 3.45am on Wednesday 31 March, police observed a vehicle going through a red light close to Mauldeth Road West, Manchester.
A pursuit began after the vehicle failed to stop for an officer and, a short time later, the vehicle collided with a taxi.
Two teenage boys - aged 17 and 18 - were taken to hospital.
Despite the best efforts of medical staff, the passenger - a 17 year male - sadly died on Tuesday 6 April. The second teenage boy remains in a critical but non-life threatening condition in hospital.
A 19-year-old man was arrested for causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop for the police and failing to stop after an RTC. He has been released under investigation.
As is standard procedure, GMP referred the matter to the IOPC and an independent investigation is underway.
GMP's Chief Superintendent Wasim Chaudhry said: "Our thoughts remain with the family of the boy who has sadly lost his life, and all those affected by this incident.
"We are fully cooperating with the independent investigation by the IOPC, and it will therefore not be appropriate to comment any further at this time."
