To celebrate Wayne Rooney’s upcoming testimonial match we have found ten things you probably didn’t know about the Manchester United and England player.
- In the season he played for Everton Under 11s, he scored 114 goals in 30 games.
- When coach Steve Rutter first included Rooney in England Under 15s in his squad, he didn’t deem the now England Captain worthy of the striker position because he ‘wasn’t good enough’ and played him in the wing instead.

- Rooney’s first sponsorship deal came when it was just 14 years old. All his kit was given to him by Umbro and even got £2000 a year.
- When Wayne was first offered a full time position at Everton he was paid £75 a week, that went up to £8000 a week when he signed a professional contract aged 17.
- The whole England team signed the match ball for Rooney after he scored his first goal for his nation in 2003 against Macedonia.

- Rooney moved to Manchester United. For £25.6 million in the 2004 summer transfer window.
- Rooney has been at Manchester United for 12 years, in that time they have won the Premier League 5 times, and the Champions League once.

- To this date Rooney has made 519 appearances for Manchester United.
- Having scored 245 goals for United, he’s the clubs second top goal scorer of all time.
- Rooney was granted a testimonial by Manchester United after fans wrote to the club asking for their captain to be recognised for his contribution.
