The Thames Barrier is today (4 January) being closed over fears of flooding in the capital.

From 10.40am the 520m flood barrier will be shut because of "a high tide and forecast tidal surge", according to the Environment Agency.

Two flood alerts have also been issued for parts of the River Thames in London, warning that "flooding is possible".

The alerts cover from the Dartford Creek and The Mardyke to the Thames Barrier, as well as from Putney Bridge to Teddington Weir.

Meanwhile, the 202nd closure of the barrier is also causing disruption to TFL River Boat services.
