A teenager has been sentenced to life, with a minimum of 15 years, for the murder of a 15-year-old boy in Islington.

Deshaun James-Tuitt ran towards police around 9pm on the 4th of August 2022, telling officers he had been stabbed.

Despite the efforts from emergency services, Deshaun died in hospital later that night.

On the 5th of February 2025, a 17-year-old, who cannot be named due to his age, was found guilty of Deshaun’s murder. Six other teenagers who also stood trial for the death were found not guilty.

The court had heard how the now 17-year-old had travelled to Highbury Fields, Islington, on the night of the attack. At the time he was wearing a face covering and carrying a knife.

The victim, who had been at the park for a birthday celebration, had gotten into an argument with the armed teenager. It was then when Deshaun was fatally stabbed.

In a statement released by police, Deshaun’s family “He was my firstborn, and he would have been 18 years old. All my friends that I went to school with have their firstborn children - except me. To the person involved in the stabbing and taking his life: he didn’t deserve to die like that. I had a mental breakdown, and I will never be able to get over this.

"I want you to know that Deshaun was a son, a brother, a grandson, a great grandson, a nephew and a cousin to so many on both sides of the family, so I want you to realise that he was a valuable member of our family. We won’t forgive or forget.

"Deshaun, you can now rest in peace. Hopefully, justice will be served. Not only is Deshaun’s life lost, they who have done the crime will serve the time.”

The 17-year-old teenager has been sentenced to life with a minimum of 15 years.
